A foreign palm on the edge

We say that palm existed
And the fire-fangled bird.

Morning is on day’s edge
With a body at the center

Of the mind irrespective
Of Stevens and his palm.

The golden feathers exist
Regardless of a day’s sun

And Stevens at the edge
Regardless of our saying.

(after Wallace Stevens’ poem of “Of Mere Being”)
