The call never comes

The tree stood mute by a temple
A man cogitated on the veranda

Another, on knees, stared at river.
An old man squatted, head bent,

A turbaned man of another time,
Awaiting the call across the river.

Actually the call has never come.
It never comes in dreams and art.
