Sparrows and mothers-in-law

Afternoons the sparrows were pecking
At sworn enemies in women’s mirrors
As they made oiled plaits for evening.
They may have gone , mornings- sick

Or of many cell phone calls in the air.
Women love their afternoon gossip.
Mothers-in-law have gone for good,
Like the sparrows gone from mirrors.
